This week, work commenced on stabilising and conserving the damaged corner and arch fragment of the Abbot’s Hall ruin.
The 12th-century structure suffered a partial collapse following poor weather conditions in October 2022. Emergency safety work began soon after, and the ruin has since been fenced off to protect both visitors and the ruin itself.
The planned conservation work – for which the abbey has received Scheduled Monument Consent – will involve removing loose material from the upper section of the arch and using a bronze tie bar to re-secure the remaining dressed arch stones.
The larger pieces of stone that fell will be kept in place, landscaped and protected by fencing.
The works will continue this week and into the next.
